Description:

The Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH) and Victoria General Hospital (VGH) are undergoing simultaneous redesign and CM procurement for upgrades to existing MRI rooms and magnets. To minimize impact on clinical operations, construction is expected to be staggered starting with the RJH site.

RJH has the oldest MRI in the province and requires more immediate upgrade to mitigate any operating risks. The scope of the renovation will include, but not limited to, the following work:

  • An increase of 92mm at the existing partition behind the MRI (removal of row of steel studs and installation of GWB to RF shielding framing)
  • New MRI suite entry door, sized as per minimum dimensional standards, with a proper direction of door swing
  • Removal of all wall finishes and floor finishes
  • Temporary removal of suspended acoustic tile ceiling system to permit work, to be reinstalled
  • New PEN panel closet
  • New cable tray
  • Demo existing chiller to DT1620 – tie into existing heat recovery chiller system in level 2 interstitial space
  • Potential modification of the RF shield and walls interfacing the MRI room
  • Full evaluation of the power
  • Control room existing millwork to be removed and replaced with new mobile sit/stand workstation millwork, including storage shelving
  • MRI suite fixed millwork to be removed and replaced with new mobile millwork
  • New lighting
  • New virtual skylight within suite
